Overview
The Dentist provides comprehensive clinical dental services within a community health center setting. The position is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of oral diseases and conditions affecting patients of all ages. The Dentist supports the mission and values of the FQHC by delivering high-quality, ethical, and patient-centered care while contributing to the overall health of the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers local anesthesia routinely and prescribes analgesics and other medications when clinically indicated.
- Exposes and interprets intra-oral and extra-oral radiographs to establish accurate diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
- Performs oral surgical procedures including extractions and removal of foreign bodies or anomalies.
- Provides restorative and preventive dental services to eliminate infection and restore function.
- Identifies and treats local dental diseases and oral manifestations of systemic conditions. Initiates appropriate consultations or referrals when conditions exceed scope of practice.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Participates in a shared after-hours call schedule.
- Contributes to community-based dental health programs.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, and organizational policies.
Work is performed in a community health center dental clinic. Moderate noise levels in a moderately paced environment. Frequent in-person and telephone interaction with patients and staff. Collaboration with other departments to ensure coordinated patient care.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school recognized by the American Dental Association.
- Current Illinois dental license (or ability to obtain).
- Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
- One (1) year of clinical experience preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, handling, and fine motor use of hands and fingers.
- Occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Visual acuity includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle when required.
