Our Psychiatrist for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Services serves youth and their families who live in Lake County by providing direct clinical care of child and adolescent clients. This includes evaluation, prescribing of medications as appropriate, development of treatment plans, and ordering of lab tests at one or more clinical facilities at the FQHC.

Our Medical Director for Behavioral Health Services serves our community by providing direct patient care as well as overseeing the psychiatry providers and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) providers, including provider recruitment, development and retention, scheduling, establishment and achievement of productivity benchmarks, quality improvement, clinical direction, and risk management to ensure quality and cost-effective care.

Essential Functions:

  • Reporting directly to the Director of Behavioral Health this position oversees psychiatric services and serves as the medical advisor for the department’s behavioral health services.
  • Develops vision for the clinical activities to improve the health outcomes, obtain quality incentives and shared savings, and create innovative clinical models of care.
  • Oversees the achievement of productivity standards as set by LCHD and is responsible for working with the providers and clinical leadership to ensure that performance expectations are understood and met.
  • Monitors performance management data for areas of responsibility and assures the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement principles and projects.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Behavioral Health, is responsible for hiring the psychiatric Provider staff (including physicians, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) and ensuring that each Provider is working to meet the Health Department’s mission.
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision of staff under the Director's direction, including completion of evaluations.
  • Must reside in Illinois or Wisconsin.

Scheduled Hours: 40 hours a week

  • Monday - Friday (8:30am - 5:00pm)
  • 40% clinical and 60% administrative time, though distribution may change based on changing needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive calls from the ACI Crisis Line or Crisis Services Leadership to conduct telephone or face-to-face assessments.

  • Collaborate with Crisis Team members and access community resources when needed.

  • Assess risk and coordinate services for individuals in crisis, including facilitating hospitalization or connecting them to other resources.

  • Create safety plans for individuals as necessary.

  • Work with law enforcement and emergency medical personnel to support individuals and their families.

  • Maintain communication with internal and external partners to provide access or referrals to services.

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness in children and adults to effectively serve individuals in crisis.

  • Navigate legal issues regarding custody and guardianship to provide care in the least restrictive environment.

  • Understand the involuntary commitment process.

  • Ensure proper documentation to comply with DMH, BBH, and other entity requirements.

  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures, including emergency and corporate compliance policies.

  • Participate in scheduled conference calls, webinars, meetings, trainings, and supervision.

  • Selects and administers various tests such as psychological tests, personality inventories and intelligence quotient tests to identify behavioral or personality trains and intelligence levels and records results.
  • Reviews results of tests to evaluate client needs. Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patient in controlling disorders and other problems.
  • Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions.
  • Discusses progress toward goals with client such as controlling weight, stress or substance abuse.
  • Consults with medical provider or other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed.
  • Conducts relaxation exercises, peer counseling groups and family counseling during clinical therapy sessions.
  • Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
  • Conducts research in treatment and test validation.
  • Develops evaluative studies of therapy and therapy outcome.
  • Attends departmental and all staff meetings.

Today there are more than 100 employees working in four different sites, working to to preserve, protect, and promote the health of the community through the provision of medical, dental, and behavioral health care.

The LCSW is responsible for providing direct patient care including assessment, educational and therapeutic mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as allowed within their scope of service. The LCSW works as part of a collaborative team and works in conjunction and consultation with a licensed Psychiatrist and a Family Practice Physician. Reports to the Clinical Director
